Rowers' Revenge Triathlon

Competitor Notes

Thank you for entering the 2006 Rowers' Revenge Triathlon, we hope you have a good day. Please read the attached notes as they will help to make your day more enjoyable.

Getting to Marlow: -

Marlow is best approached from either Jct4 of the M40 or Jct8/9 of the M4. Both take you onto the A404 (Marlow Bypass). Follow this to the Bisham roundabout and head through Bisham to Marlow Bridge. Transition is in Higginson Park. Access is from Pound Lane.

Car Parking

We hope to provide parking on the football pitch behind the cricket ground/sports centre. If we are unable to do this, parking will be available in the public car park. From Marlow Bridge head to the next roundabout and turn left. The public car park is about 200 yards on the left, with the triathlon parking on the left after a further 100 yards. Alternative parking is available behind Waitrose (Over Marlow Bridge, up the High Street, turn left, right and then right.) No parking will be available at the rowing club.

Registration

Registration will take place in the cricket club pavilion. Here you will be issued with your race numbers and be body marked.

Waves 1-13 should register between 08:00 and 09:00 and attend the 09:30 briefing.

Waves 14-26 should register between 09:00 and 10:00 and attend the 10:30 briefing.

Waves 27 onwards should register between 10:30 and 11:30 and attend the 12:00 briefing.

You must have your numbers visible (front and back) at all times during the race. If we cannot see your number, you may not get a time. Bike numbers are also used for security and your race number will be required to remove your bike from transition after the race.

Approximate wave start times will be published at registration. Racing starts at 10:00 with waves starting at approx. 5 minutes intervals with 12-13 athletes per wave.

Transition

To help with security, only competitors will be allowed in transition. Please use the plastic number provided at registration to label your bike and keep your vest number to enable collection of your bike after the race. Bring your bike in via the BIKE IN/OUT access point; place your bike on the racking appropriate for your wave. Whilst we will do our best to keep your bike secure, we cannot be held responsible for any loss or damage. Transition will close at 3:30pm latest; any bikes left after this time will be unsecured.

NOTE: PLEASE RACK YOUR BIKE BEFORE YOUR BRIEFING SESSION

Photographs

Official photographs and race certificates will be available from www.Marathon-Photos.com, so make sure they can see your number!

Facilities

Public toilets are available at the main park entrance. They are also available through the Court Garden café. Food and hot drinks are available from both Court Garden's café and the park vendor.

Teams

The handover point for relay teams is the bike rack. The bike must be racked at the handover.

Ergos

Please be ready in the main Ergo queue 10 minutes before your allocated start time. Those wishing an earlier start should join the fast track queue and the marshals will then slot you into any free spaces in a wave. A limited number of rowing machines may be available for those wishing to warm up before racing. The race marshal will direct you to the machines to be used by your wave. The row is 4000m. A marshal will set your ergo clock and make a note of your time when you have finished. Once you have finished leave the ergo marquees and run to transition.

Bike

Your bike must be safe and road worthy; any not so will not be allowed to start. YOU MUST WEAR AN ANSI/SNELL/BSI APPROVED HELMET; this must be fastened before removing the bike from its slot on the racking and not unfastened before the bike is re-racked. Bikes must be racked correctly or a time penalty will be imposed. Drafting and failure to comply with the Highway Code will also be penalised. Your number should be clearly visible. Bikes cannot be ridden in the transition area, mount/dismount in the designated area outside the park. The cycle is 25km and is fully signposted.

The route takes you from the park turning left into Pound Lane. Pass two roundabouts and turn right into Pen Wood Lane, following the road round a right then left hand bend to a T-junction where you must stop and put a foot down. A 2 minute penalty will be applied for failing to do so. Turn right at this junction and take the next left immediately after the garage (Platts) - Oxford Road.

Kilometres 2-7 of the cycle are mainly up hill with the road narrowing to less than 2 lanes in places. It then descends to a crossroads where you must give way. After the crossroads it continues to descend, beware the road narrows again to less than 2 lanes. At the end of this road, about 10km, you turn left at a T-junction. Extreme caution must be taken here and any marshal's instructions obeyed as you cannot see what is approaching from the right until you are at the junction. Continue along this road; beware of the sharp right hand bend in Skirmett, until you reach the Henley/Marlow road at Mill End. Here you must give way at a T-junction, turning left and heading back to Marlow. Continue along this road for approx. 6.5km and turn right back into West Wood Road and turn left into Pound Lane before turning right into the park.

You must dismount in the designated area before entering the park. Re-rack your bike back at your slot (before removing your helmet) and proceed to the run exit at the far end of transition. Drafting and side-by-side riding are not permitted. A distance of 10m must be maintained behind the front wheel of the rider in front except when overtaking. When overtaking the manoeuvre must be completed within 30 seconds, after being overtaken that rider should drop back. BTA rules will be on display at the information desk and mobile marshals will be around the course.

Run

The run is 7.5km and is fully signposted. Your number must be clearly visible on your front at all times. Leave transition by the run exit and run towards the Church and Marlow Bridge. Water will be available by the run start. Cross the bridge, pass the rowing club and follow the footpath as it follows the road towards the Bisham roundabout. After passing Bisham Abbey Sports Centre turn right heading towards Temple. Follow this road into Temple into what looks like a dead end and take the footpath in the far left-hand corner. Follow this path to a short tunnel (taller people mind your head!) and turn right as you exit the tunnel. This track leads to a gate that you pass through before turning immediately right. Turn right again at the river, following the path over the bridge and past Temple Lock. A water station will be present after the lock. After the lock turn left following the lane up to the main road. At the farm follow the path through the kissing gates, not the road as it is private property. Turn right at the end of the lane and right again into Pound Lane. Continue down Pound Lane, enter the park and over to the finish.

Finish and Results

There will be water and a goody bag just beyond the finish. Individual results will be available immediately from the Mikrotime display unit. Full results will be available shortly after the last competitor has finished. They will also be available on the triathlon site www.rowersrevenge.co.uk and www.mikrotime.com. If you wish results to be posted to you, please leave a stamped addressed envelope at the registration desk.

Prize giving

Prize giving will be in the cricket pavilion at approx. 3:30pm, or earlier if we can manage it.

Spectators

Spectators are not allowed in the transition area. The start, transition and finish can all be viewed in the park. Food and drink is available in Higginson Park. When moving about during the race, be very wary of competitors and do not cross the race route. The park can be very busy on a good day, please take care between transition and the park entrance.
